Inadmissibility & Deportability – Definitions

Immigration law is broken into two categories.

Admissibility refers to:

  • Who can enter the U.S. from another country.

and

  • Who can remain in the U.S.

Deportability refers to:

  • Who can be removed from the U.S.
  • It may affect:
    • Individuals who were previously granted immigration status in the U.S.
    • Individuals who currently have lawful immigration status in the U.S.
